As the cold increases, the demand for Gajak also increases. Food lovers rave about Gajak in different flavours. Even in Khargone of Madhya Pradesh, Morena’s famous Gajak shops are set up at the intersections. Where to feed quality fresh Gajak to the people, traders are making and selling Gajak in their shops every day. There are more than 15 flavors of Gajak here.
Shopkeeper Krishna Jaiswal says that although Gajak (sweets) is sold throughout the year, it is in great demand during the four months of winter. Because, most people like to eat it only in winter. Gajak keeps the body warm in winter. It is also beneficial for many diseases like cold and cough. Due to demand in winter, shops are set up in almost every city. Most of the shopkeepers in these are residents of Morena. Because, this sweet is mainly eaten in Morena.
About 20 varieties of Gajak
Gajak is available in about 15 to 20 different flavors in the market. This includes normal gajak, dry fruit gajak, laddu, jaggery patti, pistachio barfi, cashew barfi, chocolate barfi etc. But, the biggest seller is Gajak made from jaggery, sesame and peanuts, which is excellent in taste and also has a low price. Apart from this, dry fruits and chocolate barfi are also in great demand.
Price in Khargone ranges from Rs 320 to Rs 600 per kg.
Shopkeepers say that Gajak is prepared in pure desi ghee in different flavors including jaggery, peanuts, black and white spleen, dry fruits etc. Here normal Gajak is priced at Rs 320 per kg, while Gajak made from pure desi ghee is priced at Rs 400 per kg. At the same time, dry fruit barfi is Rs 600, laddu barfi is Rs 600 per kg. Cashew barfi is Rs 480 per kg. Prices vary according to variety.
Earning around Rs 4-5 lakh in four months
Shopkeeper Krishna tells that he is also originally from Morena. Khargon comes to set up shop during the four months of winter. About 10 kg of Gajak is sold in a day. In this context, sales of around Rs 4000 are made in a day. There is a business of about Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand in a month and about Rs 4 lakh 80 thousand in four months. However, this also includes shop rent and expenses.
