There is a unique tea shop in Serampur, Hooghly, which is running without a shopkeeper. Bengalis’ love for tea is not hidden from anyone. Be it morning or evening, it is his habit to discuss over tea. From state to country’s politics, the tea table is the venue for debate on every issue. This tea shop located in front of “Chhatra Kali Babu Crematorium” of Serampore is about 300-350 years old.
It became a tea shop since 80-90 years
Earlier it used to be a market shop, but in the last 80-90 years it has become a tea shop. The special thing is that at this shop the customers make tea themselves and put the fixed price in the cash box.

There is no permanent shopkeeper of this tea shop. The customers who operate it themselves consider it their responsibility. The original owner of the shop passed away many years ago. Now the work of the shop owner is limited only to opening the shop in the morning. After that the customers themselves prepare the tea and serve it.
People taking the responsibility of making tea themselves
Regular customers of the shop say that they come here not just to drink tea, but to talk and spend time. In the evening when there is no one to make tea, they make tea themselves. Retired people come here to chat with their friends and sometimes make tea themselves. This is the reason why this shop has not been closed till date.
