Senior Yuvajana Sramika Raithu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader YV Subba Reddy has approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court over the controversy arising out of the claim that Tirupati temple laddus contain animal fat. On Friday (September 20, 2024), the Andhra Pradesh High Court agreed to hear his petition on September 25.
Subba Reddy on Friday sought permission from the court to file a lunch motion petition to bring out the truth of the matter related to the alleged use of animal fat in making Tirupati laddu during the rule of the previous YSR Congress government. Lunch motion petitions are used for cases that require urgent judicial intervention. Such petitions are heard before their turn comes.
Advocate P Sudhakar Reddy, who is arguing on behalf of Subba Reddy, said that the court has said that it will hear the petition on Wednesday. He told PTI-Bhasha, ‘It (allegations of animal fat in the temple’s laddus) should be investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court or the High Court should form a committee or it should be investigated by the CBI.’
Sudhakar Reddy, who was Additional Advocate General during the YSR Congress Party government, said that the person sitting in the Chief Minister’s chair (Chandrababu Naidu) should not make allegations without verification as it will hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindu devotees. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, while addressing a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Legislature Party on Wednesday, had claimed that the previous YSR Congress government did not spare even the Sri Venkateswara Temple and used substandard material and animal fat to make laddus.
Sudhakar Reddy termed it as an attempt to gain political mileage in the name of God and said that the ruling TDP chief is resorting to it for political mudslinging. The former additional advocate general claimed that Chief Minister Naidu is using God to save his tarnished image in the society.
Sudhakar Reddy said, ‘Since you have made the allegation, we want the truth to come out… You cannot use God to defame. The investigating agency working under him (Chandrababu Naidu) cannot bring out the truth.’
