New Delhi. Sunday is the last day for geo-tagging of properties and only 3.10 lakh properties have been tagged. MCD had set a target of tagging around 15 lakh properties, but came nowhere near the target. The corporation has extended its last date thrice. First, the last date for geo tagging was fixed as 31 January, 29 February and then 31 March. Geo tagging work was started in December. After this result, speculations are being made that its duration may be extended again by MCD.

Property tax is an important source of income for MCD. After geo-tagging, preparations have been made to deposit almost double the tax on maximum properties this year. Corporation officials said that this will reduce corruption and bring transparency. It is expected that in this way about Rs 2,000 crore more property tax will be collected as compared to last year, but the way the process of geo tagging is going on at a very slow pace, it does not seem that MCD will be able to live up to its expectations. . At present, the corporation has also appealed to the people to geo-tag their properties themselves.

Geo tagging is very important

Geo-tagging of properties in Delhi is very important, because the properties which are not geo-tagged will not be given 10 percent exemption in property tax from June 30. Property owners can easily do geo-tagging of their property using their unique ID or property number.

Date may be extended again, decision will be taken on Monday

Geo tagging started in the first week of December. 15 lakh properties were to be tagged in the first 50 days. Earlier there was a plan to geo-tag four lakh commercial properties, but after about four months only 3 lakh 10 thousand properties could be tagged. Corporation officials say that tanging was not done as per the target. The date may get extended again. A decision on this will be taken on Monday.
