During this year, there was a tremendous increase in violation of traffic rules in Delhi during Holi. The Delhi Traffic Police issued 7,230 challans on the day of Holi, which is more than double the 3,589 cases registered in 2024. This figure clearly shows that there is a decrease in awareness and rules of road safety.

Drink driving and helmet rules the most violations
According to the police, there was a huge increase in cases of drunk driving (driving driving). Where 1,213 people were challaned this year, while in 2024 the number was 824. Cases of running without helmets also increased by 56 percent. While 1,524 challans were taken in 2024 without a helmet driving, in 2025 the number increased to 2,376.

Apart from this, three people also increased cases of sitting on bikes, driving black glass vehicles and driving without seat belts. This year 573 challans were deducted to sit on the bike of three people, while 97 vehicles were fined for the use of black glass. There was also a huge increase in cases of other traffic violations, where 1,241 cases were registered in 2024, the number reached 2,971 in 2025.

Strictness of Delhi Traffic Police
To ensure public safety and curb violation of traffic rules, 84 special teams were deployed by the Delhi Traffic Police. Which was checking drunk driving from alcometers. In addition, 40 joint investigation teams were also formed, including traffic police and local police officers. These teams were monitoring the major intersections, bars and other sensitive places of the capital from 8 am to 12 pm.

Additional Commissioner of Delhi Traffic Police Dinesh Kumar Gupta said, βDuring Holi, we had made elaborate arrangements to prevent dangerous traffic violations like drunk driving, three people sitting on bikes, driving by minors and doing stunts. Our aim was to ensure safety of all citizens.β
