Those going home for the festival had to face problems on October 30 due to not getting seats in buses and trains. Roadways’ plan to run additional buses faltered. Passengers kept wandering for hours waiting for buses. When the bus arrived it was already full.
Regarding Diwali, Roadways had announced to run additional buses on Delhi, Noida, Aligarh-Kanpur routes. This plan appeared to be failing. Apart from Hathras, Agra, Etah, Kasganj, Mathura, Kanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, passengers traveling on local routes had to wait for hours.
Roadways Regional Manager Satyendra Verma claims that 200 buses are being run on the Delhi-Kanpur route. The frequency of some buses has also been increased. Considering the number of passengers on local routes, additional buses are being operated. On the other hand, illegal vehicle operators are taking advantage of the shortage of buses. Apart from making the passengers take risky journey, they are also charging arbitrary fare from them.
