A tribute wall bearing the names of 1,400 freedom fighters from across the country will soon be inaugurated at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The wall being built outside the JNU Convention Center will also be opened every month for school children to spread awareness among the young generation about the freedom fighters. Chakra Foundation is in charge of its construction. The wall will be shaped as an old file. In this, the names of freedom fighters will be engraved on marble granite plaques along with the statue of Bharat Mata. Also, a 100 feet high national flag will be installed in its centre.
A senior university official said on Monday that the work on building the tribute wall was started five months ago. The wall is now almost ready. It is likely to be inaugurated by February 2024. The height of the wall will be ten feet and length will be 60 feet. It will have information like names of freedom fighters, years of their survival and which state they were from. On each side of the wall there will be a pillar with the national emblem of the country at the top. There will be a QR code, which when scanned can be used to listen or read the stories of each freedom fighter in audio and visual. Students will be able to read these details in 12 different languages through an app specially created for the purpose.
On completion of 75 years of independence, a tribute wall is being built in the JNU campus by Chennai-based NGO Chakra Foundation in the memory of Indian freedom fighters. Under this initiative, walls are being constructed at 75 different locations across the country including Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Gujarat and Andaman and Nicobar. Rajasekhar, founder of Chakra Foundation, said that his aim is to spread awareness among the young generation about the freedom fighters from both the northern and southern parts of the country.
After the approval from the Centre, we can finally start the work of building the tribute wall starting from Puducherry, Delhi and Kanyakumari. He said the project is being funded through donations to the Chakra Foundation. For this, the names of donors and those who supported the project will be engraved at the bottom of the tribute wall.
