Kevin Hart is actually an amazing stand up comic. His popularity can be gauged from the fact that he has 129 million or about 130 million followers on Instagram. At one point, he was invited to host the Oscar Awards, but due to his tweets and stand-up videos, there was controversy and he had to let go of this opportunity. One of his mini series has recently been released on Netflix called ‘True Story’. The specialty of this series is that many of its scenes have been taken from Kevin’s personal life. Kevin told the writers of this series about many incidents and accidents in his life. He changed it a bit and put it in the series and you will also be able to see Kevin’s conflict in these scenes. This mini series is well made and is likely to be liked a lot even though it is not completely commercial.
The story follows two brothers, Kidd (Kevin Hart) and Carlton (Wesley Snipes). Kidd is a stand up comic, actor and is about to get divorced from his wife. His elder brother, Carlton, who is expert in the art of not getting any work done properly, is sitting on a loan of lakhs from the market. Kidd is troubled by his brother’s actions but wants to help him. On the other hand, his brother, with his clever mind, starts extorting money by framing Kid in a false murder story. In order to save himself, a murder takes place at the hands of Kid and the matter starts getting complicated. In the struggle to destroy the evidence, such incidents start happening one after the other that even the kid gets upset. After many twists and turns, Kid comes to know the reality of his brother. Eventually Carlton’s creditors follow him to eliminate him. Taking advantage of this, Kidd first shoots and kills those goons and then his brother. Kid saves himself by telling the police that it was a mutual shootout.
What great acting has Kevin Hart done? Some incidents in the series are taken from Kevin’s personal life, such as his encounter with a fan on an airplane who embarrasses Kid by telling him racist jokes. Kevin himself is a very famous celebrity, so he has struggled with strange problems as a celebrity, that too in this series. There is also a living example of how celebrity fans cross any Lakshman Rekha while expressing their love. A fan of Kidd’s continues to follow them and videos Kidd and Carlton disposing of the body. How the kids handle that fan, show a little love, a little greed and a little fake friendship and get him to delete that video, these scenes are worth watching. Wesley Snipes is a seasoned, dynamic actor. He does wonders in the role of a brother. The whole scheme is the product of his mind, but it is not understood for a long time. Basking in his younger brother’s money, asking him for money to save his flopped business and then pretending to save his brother, he gets the goons to kill the kid’s fan, yet there is no remorse on his face Comes. In the end, when Kid tells him that the secret of his whole scheme has been exposed, his face shows regret for not being able to rob his brother any more, but he is not ashamed to accept his mistake.
There are other actors in the mini series. Kidd’s bodyguard Herschel (William Catlett), his manager Todd (Paul Edelstein) or Kidd’s fan Jean (Theo Rossi) play prominent characters who are wonderful. Theo Rossi has made everyone emotional in his small role and he has shown the attitude of a passionate fan very beautifully. The writers of this series are amazing. Apart from Matthew Kellard, Eric Newman (writer of the world famous series Narcos and Narcos Mexico) has composed each scene with great care. The screenplay does not slow down anywhere. There is constant movement on the screen. Even the kid’s standup acts have been nicely woven into the story. Fellow writers like Glenda L. Richardson, Cameron Litvak, Devon Sheppard, Jenika James, Jessica James have also kept the plot interesting. Another good thing about this series is its art direction by Jacqueline. The clothes worn by each artist in different scenes also keep changing with the demand of the story. Derica Cole Washington has taken full care that the personality of each character can be revealed by the clothes and their colors worn by them earlier.
True Story is a great mini series. There is no possibility of its second part i.e. season 2 will not come. Despite this, this story has ended at such a point where it seems that the story of Kevin Hart i.e. Kid is the victory of this series. Its writers and directors have a victory. Its actors win. Must see.
