A case of an attempt to run over a Pakistani refugee by car for demanding Rs 5 for a disposable glass has come to light near the Signature Bridge in North-East Delhi. The victim narrowly escaped, but people threw stones at the car of the fleeing youth and broke the glass. Later the accused absconded.
Ramchand, a Pakistani refugee, was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where he was discharged after first aid. The police have taken his statement and registered the case. The video of the incident went viral on Wednesday. Police is searching for the accused on that basis.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Joy Tirkey said that the incident took place at 8 am on Tuesday. Ramchand, a Pakistani citizen living in the Pakistani refugee camp near the Signature Bridge, runs a small shop on the bridge itself. In the morning, two youths reached his shop in a red car and took two disposable glasses.
When Ramchand asked for five rupees in return, the young man became reluctant. The youth got angry when he asked for money again. The youth beat up Ramchand. Hearing the noise, a crowd gathered. Meanwhile the youth started running away. While running away, these people turned the car in the wrong direction near Signature Bridge and tried to crush Ramchand and other people.
Seeing the car coming towards him, a person picked up a stone and threw it on the front glass of the car, breaking the front glass. Later the accused turned the car and fled away. New Osmanpur police station is investigating the case on the basis of video.
