UGC Asks Colleges To Discontinue M.Phil Degree Asks Students To Not To Take Admission In M.phil


UGC Discontinues M.Phil Degree: Taking a big decision, the University Grants Commission has abolished the M.Phil degree. From now onwards there will be no admission in M.Phil in any college. In this regard, UGC has issued notice to the colleges and given instructions. Along with colleges, UGC Secretary Manish Joshi has also requested the students not to take admission in this course. This means that from now onwards the recognition of M.Phil course has been stopped. UGC has passed the order to close Master of Philosophy degree today itself.

What is written in the notice

In the notice issued in this regard, UGC has said that M.Phil is not a recognized degree. Let us tell you that MPhil i.e. Master of Philosophy is a two-year postgraduate academic research program which also acts as provisional enrollment for PhD. However, from today onwards UGC has ended the recognition of this degree and closed it.

Some universities were taking admission

UGC has clearly written in the notice that it has come to its notice that some universities are inviting fresh admission in M.Phil i.e. Master of Philosophy course. In this regard, UGC says that this degree is not recognized. Therefore, neither colleges should invite admission for this degree nor students should take admission in this course.

The proposal was given under NEP

Let us tell you that M.Phil degree is taken in Arts and Humanities, Science, Management, Psychology and Commerce etc. Referring to the regulation made in this regard, UGC has said that this degree is invalid. Discontinuation of this degree was recommended in the National Education Policy 2020. It has been declared invalid from this year. That is why UGC has requested both colleges and students not to take admission in this degree course. Universities have been requested to take immediate steps in this direction and stop the process of taking admission in this course with immediate effect.
