UK Elections 2024: Voting for the House of Commons has begun in Britain. Outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy have cast their votes early. The Conservative Party, which has been in power in Britain for the last 14 years, is facing a tough challenge from the opposition Labour Party this time. Pre-election surveys have estimated that the Labour Party is getting a strong lead this time.

This time people of Indian origin have become an issue in the UK elections. To woo Hindu voters of Indian origin, the Conservative Party has fielded 30 candidates and the Labour Party has fielded 33 candidates. Even today, elections are held on ballot papers in the UK. Voters of the country will vote at the polling booth and elect their country’s Prime Minister today. Like India, Britain also has an upper house and a lower house. The party that presents the majority in the lower house is invited for the post of Prime Minister. The lower house of Britain is called the House of Commons. There are a total of 650 parliamentary constituencies in Britain, where voting is taking place simultaneously today.

326 seats are needed to form a government in Britain
The party which wins at least 326 seats for majority in this election will form the government and the leader of that party will become the Prime Minister. In Britain, if no party gets majority, then the current Prime Minister is given the first opportunity to form a coalition government. The Conservative Party has been ruling Britain for the last one and a half decade, but this time it has reached a difficult turn. In the last parliamentary election held in December 2019, the Conservative Party won a landslide victory under the leadership of Boris Johnson.

The election result will be out in Britain tomorrow morning
Voting in Britain started at 7 am today according to local time, which will continue till 10 pm. Counting of votes will start immediately after this. The results are expected tomorrow morning on June 5. In this election in Britain, the current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is in direct competition with Keir Starmer.
