The British government has taken this step for border security and to provide more convenient travel to the people coming to their country. What new permits are required when visiting UK?
Now, if anyone is going to Britain except Irish citizens, they will have to first obtain ETA or e-Visa. The process of its application has started. ETA will be made mandatory from January. This system will also be implemented for European citizens from 5 March 2025, who will be able to take ETA to travel to Britain from 2 April 2025.
These documents will not be needed
With the introduction of the new system, you will be able to get digital certificate of immigration through e-Visa. With this, there will be no need for physical documents. The biggest benefit of this will be that the fear of loss or disturbance of these documents will go away. Let us tell you that ETA is already applicable for the citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
How long will ETA remain in effect?
Britain will also charge some fees from citizens of other countries in exchange for ETA, meaning this facility is not free at all. You will have to spend a total of £10 to get an ETA made. Any citizen will be able to take permission to travel for a maximum of 6 months through this. ETA will be valid for 2 years or till the passport expires.
What to do to get ETA made
Like the US Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), European citizens must fill out an online form before travelling. Personal details and passport data will have to be filled in this. It will take two to three days to get the permit, provided that you have to provide documents, especially a copy of your passport.
Apart from this, it will also be important to tell the reason for your travel. According to the information, migrants using Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) will have to create an online account so that they can easily use their eVisa.
