Under which sections was RG Kar’s former principal Sandeep Ghosh arrested after 16 days of interrogation?

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh after 16 days of interrogation. Sandip Ghosh has been arrested in connection with financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital. The case was being investigated by the Bengal Police’s SIT, however, a few days ago, the case was transferred to the CBI on the orders of the Calcutta High Court. Sandip Ghosh’s arrest came at a time when the CBI is tightening its grip on him in the case of rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital.

Under which sections was the case registered?

Apart from Ghosh, CBI has arrested three more people in this case. The arrested people include Biplav Singha, Suman Hazara, Afsar Ali. Last week, CBI had registered a case against Ghosh and others under section 120B (criminal conspiracy), section 420 (fraud) of IPC and section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act.

In these cases, the punishment is from 2 years to life imprisonment under section 120B, maximum 7 years imprisonment under section 420 and 6 months to 5 years imprisonment under Prevention of Corruption Act.

Suspicious role in junior doctor rape case too

On August 9, a junior doctor posted on night duty at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was raped. After this, she was brutally murdered. Ghosh was in charge of the institute at that time. The accused in this case, Sanjay Roy, has been arrested.

However, his role in this entire case is also considered suspicious. Ghosh is on the radar of CBI. CBI is also continuously questioning him. Apart from this, CBI also conducted a polygraph test of Sandeep Ghosh. CBI sources say that Ghosh is constantly changing his statements during interrogation and the investigating agency is not satisfied with his answers.
