Although the first budget of independent India was presented on 26 November 1947, but if we talk about the first budget of India, then it started in the British era. India’s first budget was presented in Britain on 7 April 1860 and passed. Then it was introduced by Finance Member James Wilson.
KC Niyogi never got a chance to present the budget
If we talk about the budget of independent India, till now there has been only one finance minister who could not present the budget. That finance minister was KC Niyogi. He is the only person who remained the Finance Minister but could not present the budget. In fact, in 1948, he held the post of Finance Minister for just 35 days. You will be surprised to know that Morarji Desai holds the record of presenting the budget for the maximum number of times in independent India. Morarji Desai has presented the country’s budget ten times as the Finance Minister. This includes eight general budgets and two interim budgets.
