Expansion
Despite strict instructions from the party’s top leadership, public representatives did not take interest in the BJP’s membership campaign. In the first phase of membership campaign which ran from 2 to 25 September, there are many MPs and MLAs who have made less than five hundred members. State President Bhupendra Chaudhary, without taking names, gave strict instructions to these public representatives and directed them to complete the target by October 15 in the second phase.
The party has given a target to all the MPs and MLAs to make 10 thousand new members each. The first phase ended on September 25 and the second phase is starting from Tuesday. In this series, a meeting was held on Monday at Visvesvaraya Auditorium in Lucknow to review the membership campaign. It was revealed that the MPs and MLAs had the worst performance in the first phase.
State General Secretary (Organization) Dharampal Singh presented the report card of the campaign so far. It was told that 15 MLAs have not even made 500 members yet. At the same time, 35 MLAs have not been able to cross the figure of five thousand. Similarly, two MPs have more than five hundred members and five have less than one thousand members. However, against the target of making two crore members, so far 1.70 crore members have been formed.
It was also informed in the meeting that there are 1.5 lakh members in 35 districts and more than one lakh members in ten districts. Many assembly constituencies do not have even ten thousand members yet. He said that 200 members are to be made at each booth. But there are still a large number of booths where there are not even a hundred members. However, in the report, the names of the lagging MPs and MLAs in the membership campaign have been kept confidential.
The state president told Kanpur area in-charge and state general secretary Anoop Gupta that even though your Kanpur area is small, membership there is less. On the other hand, the party has now reduced the requirement of 100 ordinary members to become an active member to 50 members. Chaudhary has asked to focus more on backward, Dalit and women in the membership campaign. The BJP district heads of the districts which topped in the membership campaign gave a presentation. Hardoi BJP President Ajit Singh and Agra BJP President Bhanu said that they have reviewed the campaign daily.
Many MLAs slipped away on the pretext of drinking water
Many MLAs, who were lagging behind in the membership campaign, left the meeting on the pretext of drinking water as soon as the polls were exposed. At the same time, many ministers and MLAs did not come to the meeting. Whereas the organization had asked all the MLAs, MPs and ministers to compulsorily attend the meeting.
West first and Awadh second
According to the report, the maximum number of members have been made in the membership campaign in the western region. While Awadh region is in second place, Braj region is in third place, Kanpur-Bundelkhand is in fourth place, Kashi is in fifth place and Gorakhpur region is in sixth place. Dharampal Singh said that in the second phase of the membership campaign, members will be made by organizing camps.
