The cost of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway connecting Gorakhpur to Purvanchal Expressway has increased considerably due to inflation. Earlier its budget was Rs 5,873 crore, which has now increased to more than Rs 7,300 crore. The government has approved the increased budget. More than 98 percent of the work on the Gorakhpur Link Expressway has been completed. Preparations are being made for its inauguration soon.

Let us tell you that this link expressway starts near Gorakhpur bypass NH 27 village Jaitpur and meets Purvanchal Expressway in Salapur, Azamgarh. Its length is 91.35 km. This project has been divided into two packages. Its total cost was about Rs 5,876 crore.

On March 5, UPDA had told the government that the cost had increased to Rs 7331 crore due to additional work to be done as per the requirement of the project site, increase in GST, increase in prices, increase in the amount and cost of land acquisition and increase in utility shifting.

On this, the Industrial Development Department has approved the revised cost of Package-1 of Gorakhpur Link Expressway Project at Rs 4,509 crore and the revised cost of Package-2 at Rs 2,764 crore.
