Expansion

The imposition of fines on medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh started with private colleges. Private colleges deposited the fine amount immediately in a hurry. Now its effect has reached government colleges as well. National Medical Commission (NMC) first raised objection on private colleges. They were fined for lack of medical teachers. A fine of Rs 1.36 crore was imposed on 19 medical colleges of the state. Sources say that all the private colleges deposited the fine amount in a hurry.

At the same time, the question was also raised that the same deficiencies are present in government colleges as in their college. In such a situation, what action was taken against the government colleges? After this objection, NMC re-examined the details of biometric attendance of teachers in government medical colleges and then a letter has been issued to impose a fine.

Private colleges benefit from every side

An official from the medical education department said that private colleges are making profit even after paying the fine. He gives the example of a college that has paid a fine of Rs 6 lakh. He says that a medical teacher has to be paid a salary of about Rs 1 lakh every month. There are 50 MBBS seats in the concerned college. According to the standard, there are 10 less medical teachers here. In such a situation, Rs 6 lakh has been deposited by saving the expenditure of Rs 10 lakh every month. On the other hand, it is certain that additional burden will be put on the students in lieu of this fine. In this way, they are making profit in every way, but the entire department is racking its brains as to from which head the government colleges should deposit the fine amount.

GSVM Kanpur fined Rs 20 lakh and Kannauj fined Rs 12 lakh

The process of imposing fines on colleges by NMC continues. On Monday, a fine of Rs 20 lakh was imposed on GSVM Kanpur and Rs 12 lakh on Government Medical College Kannauj. NMC notice has been sent to both the colleges. Till now, a fine of Rs 87 lakh was imposed on 18 government colleges of the state, but on Monday the names of two other colleges have also been included. In the notice sent to the colleges of Kanpur and Kannauj, it has been said that there is no Aadhar link based attendance. Both have been given a week’s time. In such a situation, it is feared that all the colleges may come under its purview.
