Due to snowfall in the mountains and the effect of westerly wind, a blanket of fog remained over Bareilly on Monday. It was also cloudy. The day temperature dropped by seven degrees. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of fog and cold day till January 2 and appealed to take safety precautions. On the other hand, winter vacation has been declared in council schools. BSA Sanjay Singh said that the half-yearly examinations have been completed. According to the basic calendar, there will be winter vacation from 31st December to 14th January. Now schools will open on 15th January.

It was sunny throughout the day on Sunday and fog started appearing in the evening. The minimum temperature was recorded at 12.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal. Whereas with the entry of clouds in the morning the fog started becoming denser. Monday morning was full of melt. The sun could not be seen due to the gathering of clouds. People remained covered with warm clothes. During the day, bonfires were seen burning at various places in the city. To get relief from cold, heaters, blowers, warmers etc. should be used in the houses. There was less crowding in the markets as compared to normal days.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 14.3 degrees Celsius, a record drop of seven degrees. According to Atul Kumar, expert of the Zonal Meteorological Center, clouds entered with the westerly wind. The chill increased due to lack of sunlight. Cold days are expected for three days.
