Expansion
In the elections to be held on 13 seats of UP Legislative Council, BJP may get ten seats and SP may get three seats. BJP has 288 votes and SP has 108 votes. 29 votes will be required in the election for one seat, in such a situation BJP can win ten seats while SP will easily get three seats.
Their ticket may be deducted
It is almost certain that the tickets of BJP members Bukkal Nawab, Sarojini Aggarwal, Nirmala Paswan, Ashok Dhawan will be cut in the Legislative Council. Yashwant, a BJP member in the Council, had fielded his son Vikrant Singh from Azamgarh area as an independent candidate against the BJP in the Local Body Area Legislative Council elections. Vikrant Singh won the election and BJP lost the election. Since then the party leadership is angry with Yashwant. In such a situation, Yashwant is doubtful about getting the ticket again. Whereas Dr. Mahendra Kumar Singh, Vijay Bahadur Pathak, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Ashok Kataria can get the ticket again. Apna Dal SK’s Ashish Patel is also sure to be elected as a member of the council. In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the party will select candidates according to caste equation and regional balance. The party has a list of about 35 such contenders, who have to be adjusted, out of which most of the candidates will be decided.
…then BSP will be free from the upper house
The only member of BSP in the Legislative Council is Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. His tenure ends on May 5. Umashankar Singh is the only BSP MLA in the Legislative Assembly. In such a situation, BSP does not have enough members even to file nomination.
BSP will be able to field candidates only if it has an alliance with BJP or SP. If BSP does not form an alliance with BJP, the Upper House will become BSP free. It is noteworthy that there is not even a single member of Congress in the council. Now only BJP, SP, Jansatta Dal Loktantrik, Nishad Party, Apna Dal (S), Shikshak Dal will remain non-political and independent members.
