UPSC CSE Prelims 2024 Analysis: The Union Public Service Commission has organized this year’s Civil Services Pre Exam 2024 on 16th June. A large number of candidates have participated in the exam. Talking about this year’s GS paper, the level of this year’s exam can be called moderate in which there were mixed type questions. That is, some questions were very difficult and some were normal and the exam can be called neither very difficult nor very easy.

How was the paper compared to last year

If reports are to be believed, the paper can be said to be easy in comparison to the year 2023 i.e. last year. The GS and CSAT paper was conducted in two shifts. This year more than 13 lakh candidates have given the exam for 1056 vacancies. Experts are considering this year’s overall paper to be moderate.

There were many questions with statements

There were many statement type questions in this year’s exam. Apart from this, many questions were asked from current affairs. Many questions from Polity and Geography came from NCERT books. Paper One i.e. GS paper was conducted in session one. Two hours were given for this. Paper Two i.e. CSAT paper was conducted in shift two, which was also given two hours to solve.

Analysis of the first paper

In this section, questions were asked from subjects like Current Affairs, Science, Technology, History. There were 18 questions in Polity which were application based, these were easy to moderate. There were 15 application based questions in Economy which were moderate. There were 9 questions each from History and Science & Technology, in which History questions were average and Science questions were easy.

There were 19 questions from Geography and 20 from Current Affairs. Geography was static while Current Affairs was application based. The questions in both the sections were from easy to moderate. There were 10 application based questions from Environment which ranged from easy to a little difficult.

What about the second paper?

CSAT is a qualifying paper in which it is necessary to score 33% marks. Its situation was something like this. 35 to 40 questions came from Reasoning Ability and if you have attempted 21 to 26 then it is good. 22 to 24 questions from Reading Comprehension and attempting 14 to 17 questions is good, 23 to 25 questions from Numerical Ability in which 15 to 18 questions were attempted then it is good. The level of all can be called moderate.

what was the difficulty level

Most of the questions in Polity were easy, only four-five questions could be considered difficult. History questions were tougher than last year, Geography had concept based questions which were of medium type, Economy questions were average to tough and there were many questions on government schemes. Environment section was tough and Science section was a bit tough.

UPSC CSE Expected Cut-Off

Something can be said with certainty only after the results are out but the expected cut-off is expected to be this much. 95 to 100 for general category, a little less than general for OBC and a little less than that for SC, ST.
