UPSC Success Story: For most people, YouTube is a way to pass time by watching favorite reels, videos, movies etc. but by making better use of this video sharing social media platform, you can also change the condition and direction of your life. Taruni Pandey of Jharkhand has done something with the help of YouTube, which no one can even imagine. By studying from YouTube, Taruni not only passed the UPSC exam in her first attempt but also secured 14th rank.
Taruni was born in Chittaranjan, West Bengal and her early education was in Jamtara, Jharkhand. He has done BA and MA in English Literature from IGNOU. Taruni wanted to become a doctor since childhood. However, due to poor health, he had to leave his MBBS studies midway. Even after this, he did not give up and started preparing for UPSC with the help of YouTube in the year 2020. She could not appear in the examination in 2020 due to Covid infection. In the year 2021, he again gave the preliminary examination.
This was his last chance as he would become overage next year but God listened to him. After passing pre-mains and then interview, Taruni continued to achieve success at every stage. He set a new example by securing 14th rank in his first attempt without any coaching. He had cleared Prelims in just four months of preparation.
Challenges came during preparation
This journey of Taruni was not easy. After recovering from poor health, it was very difficult to continue studies during the Covid infection. During this time, Taruni’s brother-in-law passed away. This accident was mentally devastating for the family. However, Taruni did not give up and despite helping her sister in every possible way, she continued to study.
Social media is helpful, not a hindrance
Often people advise to stay away from social media during exams. This effort of Taruni shows that social media platforms are not a hindrance in better preparation, rather their better use can enhance your preparation.
