Every year lakhs of youth prepare for the UPSC exam. Being one of the toughest exams in the country, many people lose hope after failure. But there are some who do not give up and finally crack the exam. One such story is of Ummul Khair, who put all her heart and soul into cracking this exam.
Had surgery 8 times
Ummul, a resident of Rajasthan, was brought up in Delhi’s Trilokpuri slum. Her father used to sell clothes. Ummul was suffering from a weak bone disease since childhood. Due to this disease, Ummul underwent eight surgeries and suffered sixteen fractures. The financial condition of the house was not good. But she had the passion to achieve something.
leaving home to study
Ummul started teaching tuitions considering the financial condition of the family. She started working since childhood to study. With the help of an NGO, she completed her studies till 10th. After 10th, the family did not want her to continue her studies. So she left home and studied 12th while living in slums. She overcame all obstacles and scored an excellent 91% marks in 12th. After this, she graduated from Gargi College of Delhi University.
constant preparation
Ummul did her MA from JNU’s School of International Studies. After which she took admission in MPhil/PhD program. Along with this, she started preparing hard for UPSC. She cracked the UPSC exam in the year 2016. This was Ummul’s first attempt. In which she secured 420th rank.
