In fact, a recent research revealed that more people die due to using the phone while driving than the number of people who die due to breaking the red light.

Whose research?

In fact, a research conducted by the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Center at IIT Delhi revealed that using mobile phones while driving has caused four times more deaths than breaking the red light. Let us tell you, in the year 2022 alone, 61,038 people lost their lives in road accidents. Whereas, in the year 2021, 56000 people lost their lives in road accidents.

How many deaths occur due to which reasons

This research also tells that due to which reasons how many deaths occur during road accidents. Let us tell you, most deaths occur due to driving at high speed. In the year 2022, 45,928 people died due to driving at high speed. Whereas, 3,544 people died due to driving on the wrong side.

At the same time, 1,503 people died due to drunk driving. 1,132 people died due to driving while using mobile phone. Whereas, 271 people died in the year 2022 due to breaking the red light. At the same time, 8,660 people lost their lives during road accidents due to other reasons.

A look at the figures from around the world

According to the report of the World Health Organization (WHO), every year about 11 lakh 90 thousand people lose their lives in road accidents. Road accidents are a major cause of death especially for people between 5 and 29 years of age. Of all the deaths in road accidents in a year, 23 percent are of those who are walking on the road. Whereas, 21 percent are of those who are walking on bikes. At the same time, 6 percent are of those who ride a bicycle.
