Vaijayanti Mala recently celebrated her 91st birthday. The actress was born on 13 August 1933 in Triplicane, Chennai. Her mother Vasundhara Devi was a famous actress. Following her mother’s footsteps, Vaijayanti also made a career in the film world. The actress made her debut in the film world at the age of 16. However, her debut was from South cinema. She was first seen in the 1949 Tamil film ‘Vadakai’.

Stepped into Bollywood at the age of 18


After debuting in South cinema, Vaijayanti soon turned to Hindi cinema. She debuted in Bollywood at the age of 18 with the film ‘Bahaar’ which was released in the year 1951. Vaijayanti’s brilliant films include ‘Sangam’, ‘Sadhana’, ‘Prince’, ‘Madhumati’, ‘Suraj’, ‘Sadhana’, ‘Ganga Jamuna’ and ‘Amrapali’ etc.

Received the Best Actress Award three times

Vaijayanti Mala’s name was once associated with Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. However, her love with both remained incomplete. Later she fell in love with a doctor Chamanlal Bali. Actually Chamanlal had treated the actress when she had pneumonia. But the actress fell in love with him. Later both of them got married in the year 1968.
