On an average, there are around 1000 to 1500 traffic challans every day in the capital. In this mostly e-challan is issued. This information is given to the owner of the concerned vehicle through SMS and e-mail. Now vehicle owners will also be given information about challan on their WhatsApp. According to Transport Department officials, there are around 82 lakh registered vehicles in Delhi. More than this number of vehicles ply on the roads. Currently, Delhi government is going to launch AI-based traffic violation challan system. In such a situation, the number of e-challans will increase manifold. At present, through the web portal system of the Transport Department, e-challan is issued to the vehicle owner through SMS and e-mail on the registered mobile number. Now preparations have been made to send the challan through WhatsApp. Officials say WhatsApp has become the most commonly used messaging channel for user communication. Therefore, challan information will also be sent on WhatsApp. However, if the concerned vehicle owner is not registered with WhatsApp, in this case the challan will also be sent through SMS and email (if any).
