Water in Iran: Iran is a country where there are no rivers, ponds and springs, which means there is a huge shortage of water above ground. But there is no shortage of water under the ground. According to BBC, about three thousand years ago, Iranians had discovered a way to extract water from the ground, with the help of which many gardens in Iran have been flourishing since ancient times.
According to BBC report, at one time Islam was not a religion in Iran, rather Parsis lived there. According to the report, there are many mountains in Iran and the amount of underground water in their foothills is sufficient. Three thousand years ago, Iran’s engineering was so advanced that water was easily extracted and transported to long distances through the mountain slopes. Even today, signs of these water outlets are present in Iran.
Qanat of Iran included in World Heritage Site
According to the report, the method of extracting water from underground is seen in many areas of Iran including Isfan and Yazd. This brilliant engineering of water supply is called ‘Karij’ in Persian language. But its Arabic name ‘Qanat’ is more popular. According to the report, the method of extracting water from the foothills of the mountains is still in practice in some areas. In the year 2016, UNESCO has included it in the World Heritage Site.
Water was extracted in this way
It is said that for making Qanat, earlier such mountains were identified where there was silty soil inside the ground. Then, by digging at such places, water was extracted using excellent engineering and this water was transported to long distances. Paths were also made to supply oxygen during deep digging. This method was also used to freeze ice during the cold months, so that it could be used during the summer months. Besides, air-conditioned houses were also built near the canal, which remained quite cool during the summer months.
