Moga was the coldest in the state and the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.2 degree Celsius.
The night temperature in Delhi was recorded at 5.3 degree Celsius on Sunday. At the same time, the ridge area of Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees, which is 4.9 degrees below normal. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no respite from the cold wave for the next four days. Yellow alert has been issued in the capital for Monday. There may be a further drop in the night’s mercury. Day temperature may rise.
There is also apprehension that people will have to celebrate the New Year only in the chilling cold. There is disappointing news for snowfall lovers as according to the Meteorological Department, most of the tourist places in Himachal Pradesh are not likely to receive snowfall this week.
Dense fog in many areas According to the IMD, the ridge area of Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of three degrees Celsius, which is 4.9 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature settled at 16.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal. Dense fog remained in many areas of National Capital Region, Haryana, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan till late Sunday morning. There is a possibility of frost in many areas of Punjab for the coming days. There was sunshine in Delhi-NCR, but due to cold winds, there was no warmth in it.
Coldest night of the season in Srinagar and Jammu The intervening night of Saturday-Sunday was the coldest night of the season in Srinagar and Jammu region. The minimum temperature was 4.1 degrees Celsius, 4.1 degrees below normal, and minus 5.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar. There may be further drop in mercury till December 31 in Jammu. It is getting bitterly cold in Kashmir amidst Chilla Kalan. In Leh and Kargil too, water in taps has frozen due to high mercury fall in many places. According to the Meteorological Center Srinagar, there may be rain and snowfall in some parts on Monday. Its effect will be seen on 29 December as well.
Para reached minus 10.8 degrees in Himachal’s Keylong Himachal Pradesh is also in the grip of cold wave. Sunday was the coldest day of the season in Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul. The minimum temperature here fell below minus 10.8 degrees. The maximum temperature was recorded at 1.4 degree Celsius. The mercury in seven areas of the state including Manali has gone below zero. According to the Meteorological Center, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall in the high altitude areas including Shimla on Monday and December 29. Yellow alert of fog has been issued for the plains.
10 trains running late due to fog According to Northern Railway, at least 10 trains were running late by one to four hours due to dense fog. These include Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi, Darbhanga-New Delhi Special, Howrah-New Delhi Express and Banaras-New Delhi Express.
