Different patterns of weather are being seen. Due to snowfall on the peaks in the western Himalayan states, North India is in the grip of severe cold and water sources on the mountains have frozen. At the same time, torrential rains have wreaked havoc in some areas of South India including Tamil Nadu and people are facing problems like waterlogging. The Meteorological Department has predicted fog in northwest, east and northeast India and further rain in south Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

A sudden drop in mercury was recorded on Friday after the first snowfall of this season in the plains of Kashmir. The night temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus two degrees, which was minus half a degree on the previous night. At the same time, a huge drop in minimum mercury has been recorded in most of the districts of Punjab and Haryana and due to westerly wind, cold is also being felt more.

Sangrur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 1.1 degrees Celsius from Punjab. At the same time, it remained at 1.7 degrees in Hisar, Haryana. The season’s lowest temperature of 0.1 degree Celsius was recorded in Fatehpur, Rajasthan. According to Jaipur Meteorological Centre, severe cold wave occurred at one or two places in the state during the last 24 hours. Rain continued in many districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Friday and Thamirabarani river is in spate.
