West Bengal Crime: A schoolgirl was kidnapped and murdered in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal last Friday. Before carrying out the incident, the criminal was seen in a shop, CCTV footage of which has come to light. In the clip, the accused is talking to a person in the shop before leaving. On the incident, the police confirmed that the accused had picked up the minor victim on a bicycle.
The student had left home for coaching, but when she did not return, the family lodged a complaint at Jaynagar police station on Friday. The next day, on Saturday morning, his body was recovered from a deserted area about a kilometer away from Mashishamari police post. Palash Chandra Dhali, SP, Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, said that when her father returned from his shop at 8 pm, he came to know that his 10-year-old daughter had not returned home. He then went to Mashishamari police camp before going to Jaynagar police station to register the case.
CCTV footage surfaced
A friend of the victim told the police that she had seen the accused and the victim on a bicycle. The SP said that his information helped the police to identify and arrest the killer. He said that when interrogated, he confessed to the crime and took the police to the place where he had dumped the body. Police recovered the mutilated body at around 3:00 am on Saturday.
Kidnapping was done by luring with ice cream
The accused, a person named Mustakin Sardar, had been trying to befriend the victim for some time. However, on the day of the crime, he picked up the victim after feeding her ice cream. After this incident, protests have started in the area. Local people took to the streets with sticks and brooms and protested against the incident. He alleges that there is a police camp nearby. The police camp was vandalized and set on fire. However, the police said that as soon as they received the complaint, they started investigation and the accused was arrested on Saturday morning.
Demand for resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
On the matter, SP Dhali said that as soon as we received the complaint, we started the investigation at 8.30 pm. We supported the family. This is a heinous crime. We will file a charge sheet soon and demand death penalty. Additional police force has also been sent to the area to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, political rhetoric has also started in the state regarding the incident. Union Minister and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar claimed that the girl was raped and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Banerjee. A second post-mortem will be conducted on the victim’s body. Police said that clarity will be given regarding adding charges of sexual harassment only after the post mortem report comes. Let us tell you that the second post-mortem is being conducted on the orders of Calcutta High Court.
