American newspaper The Washington Post wrote, vigorous preparations are going on in the holy city of Ayodhya located in Uttar Pradesh, India for the inauguration of the grand temple of Lord Ram, the most revered deity of Hindu religion. The inauguration of the Ram temple on Monday will fulfill a decades-old Hindu nationalist pledge. Its voice is expected to resonate among voters during the upcoming national elections to be held in April or May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has planned live screenings across the country as well as in some Indian embassies across the world.
Ayodhya is the center of BJP’s fortunes
The Economist, a magazine published from London in Britain, wrote that the city of Ayodhya is the center of the story of Ram, one of the most revered gods of Hinduism. It is also central to the fortunes of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the late 1980s, the BJP agitated to build a temple in place of the 450-year-old mosque in Ayodhya. According to BJP, the place where Lord Ram was born was taken over by building a mosque.
The Economist wrote – In 1992, a mob enraged by the inflammatory speeches of BJP leaders destroyed the mosque, which led to riots all over India. During this period, about 2,000 people were killed, mostly Muslims. Since then, despite the bloodshed, BJP has pledged to build the temple in election after election. Therefore, it is difficult to imagine a more triumphant moment for Prime Minister Narendra Modi than the ceremony to be held on January 22. The long awaited temple will be consecrated on Monday.
divine moment or political gimmick
The British newspaper The Guardian raised questions on the inauguration ceremony of Ram Temple and wrote – Is this a divine moment or a political gimmick? It is further written that India is ready for the inauguration of a huge Hindu temple. The opposition has condemned the inauguration of Ram temple before the elections. At present, the largest Ram temple is being constructed in Ayodhya and there is enthusiasm among the devotees attending the ceremony.
The Guardian further wrote- Only half of the Ram temple in the holy city of Ayodhya is built. The imposing pillars, the massive domes 49 meters (161 ft) high and the elaborate gateways and carvings are what will ultimately form the final architecture of this much-awaited temple. Not all is complete yet, instead it remains largely a construction site. Fences are being installed in the temple to stop intruders. The temple complex is full of scattered items and bulldozers.
The newspaper further writes, yet even in its half-built state, the importance of this temple is unmatched by any other religious structure in India. Prime Minister on 22 January Narendra Modi Ram Mandir Will participate in the inauguration. During this time, an idol of Hindu deity Lord Rama will be kept in the inner sanctum of the temple.
