AC Guide: Whenever we talk about air conditioner, ton is definitely used with it. In most of the houses, 1, 1.5 or 2 ton AC is installed. But why is AC measured in tons? Very few people know this. Many people think that it must be related to the gas present in the AC or some people think that it must be related to the weight of the AC. Let us tell you about it.
What does ton mean in AC?
In air conditioner, ton means the heat that can be thrown out of the room. Ton shows how much heat an AC can remove from a room in 1 hour. 12000 BTU means 1 ton, BTU means British Thermal Unit. This is the parameter of the cooling capacity of AC. 1 ton means 12000 BTU. 1.5 ton means 18000 BTU, while 2 ton means 24000 BTU.
According to internet sources, a 1 ton AC provides good cooling in a 150 square feet room, and a 1.5 ton AC provides good cooling in a 200 square feet room. The higher the tonnage of the AC, the more cooling it will do and the cooler the room will be, however, the size of the room, insulation, ceiling height and window are also factors that affect the cooling capacity. Before buying, you can take advice from an expert about how many tons of AC you should buy for your home.
How does AC work?
The air conditioner takes in warm air from the room and cools it using special coils and fans. It then releases the warm air outside. The compressor helps keep the air cool, while the filter cleans the air. The thermostat controls how much cool air the AC will release outside.
