Crores of deaths occurred due to Black Death
Let’s talk about where the Black Death epidemic started. There used to be a city in Italy whose name was Republic of Genova. The main business of this city was maritime trade. Which was spread from Europe to Central Asia. Once 12 ships of this empire were stopped at the port of Sicily in Italy after returning from the Black Sea. Then when some people climbed into it to unload the luggage, they were surprised to see the view inside.
There was a pile of dead bodies inside the ship. Some dead bodies had rotted. Which were being eaten by rats. Some people were alive and that too in bad condition, suffering from fever and pus was flowing from the body. After seeing this, those ships were sent away. But by then it was too late and disease had entered the city in the form of rats and flies.
This was the bubonic plague which had spread badly. Its outbreak gradually started spreading to all the nearby cities. Soon, more deaths started taking place. The doctor refused to treat people. The bodies remained lying where they were. According to statistics, about 2.5 crore people died due to this epidemic.
Why was it named Black Death?
Initially this epidemic was called Great Mortality. Anyone suffering from this flag would develop large boils under his armpits and thighs. Which were black in colour. There was internal bleeding in the victim’s body, the blood did not come out and it turned completely black. Due to which the color of the skin used to turn black. Due to this, this epidemic was called Black Death.
