In some cultures, not hugging or shaking hands is considered rude, while in others, especially with women, it is considered rude to make eye contact. A strange incident happened with a young woman. She politely requested another woman in a coffee shop to lower the volume of a loud video. But instead, she was asked to apologize! The young woman could not understand what her mistake was.
While this woman and her boyfriend were trying to work quietly in the back room of the coffee shop, another woman decided to play the video at full volume. At first, the woman put on her headphones to drown out the noise with music, but she could still hear the loud sound of the video. So she decided to politely request that the volume be lowered.
But the other woman’s reaction was not very good. She immediately replied, ‘You cannot touch me’ and started staring at me. The woman said, “I immediately apologized. I come from an Eastern European family, so it was natural for me, but I believe that privacy space is very important in America. After apologizing, the woman asked, ‘Can you mind toning it down a little?'”

The woman did not lower the volume of her video, due to which the girl and her boyfriend decided to leave. Sharing the incident, the girl asked on Reddit, “I really feel that she was not a civilized person, but I wonder how big my mistake was because I started the conversation by patting her on the shoulder. Am I stupid?”
In the comments, people comforted her, saying she had done nothing wrong, and that she had only “patted him on the shoulder”. One said, “No. You tapped him on the shoulder. It’s not like you grabbed him or anything. People who treat study and quiet areas like their private homes are the worst.”
