Assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra this year. Before the elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Ajay Tukaram Sanade and Anjana Tukaram Sanade’s house in Kolhapur, Maharashtra for dinner. During this time, Rahul also tried his hand at cooking in the kitchen. Rahul Gandhi said, even today very few people know about Dalit kitchen. As Shahu Patole ji said, ‘No one knows what Dalits eat.’
Rahul Gandhi also shared the video on social media platforms. It can be seen that while eating food, Rahul Gandhi says that he does not eat much chilli. During this he is seen saying, how much chilli did I put…

Curious about what they eat, how they cook it, and what its social and political significance is, I spent an afternoon with Ajay Tukaram Sanade ji and Anjana Tukaram Sanade ji. pic.twitter.com/yPjXUQt9te

While sharing the video, Rahul wrote, even today very few people know about Dalit kitchen. As Shahu Patole ji said, no one knows what Dalits eat. Rahul said, he respectfully invited me to his home in Kolhapur, Maharashtra and gave me a chance to help in the kitchen. Together we prepared ‘Harbhyachi Bhaaji’ of gram greens and toor dal with brinjal. Talking about Patole ji and the Sanade family’s personal experiences of caste and discrimination, we discussed the lack of awareness about Dalit food and the importance of documenting this culture. The Constitution gives shares and rights to the Bahujans, and we will protect that Constitution. But true inclusivity and equality of all in the society will be possible only when every Indian makes efforts with a feeling of brotherhood in his heart.
