While sharing the video, Rahul wrote, even today very few people know about Dalit kitchen. As Shahu Patole ji said, no one knows what Dalits eat. Curious about what they eat, how they cook it, and its social and political significance, I spent an afternoon with Ajay Tukaram Sanade ji and Anjana Tukaram Sanade ji.

Rahul said, he respectfully invited me to his home in Kolhapur, Maharashtra and gave me a chance to help in the kitchen. Together we prepared ‘Harbhyachi Bhaaji’ of gram greens and toor dal with brinjal. Talking about Patole ji and the Sanade family’s personal experiences of caste and discrimination, we discussed the lack of awareness about Dalit food and the importance of documenting this culture.
