There is a word in Arabic, Hajab, which means to hide or cover. It is said that the word Hijab came from there. But for the last few years, Hijab has become synonymous with rebellion. While there was a rebellion in its favor in India, there was a rebellion against it in Iran. Well, today we will not get into this, but will tell you what has been said about Hijab in Islam and what is its meaning.
First understand what is Hijab
Hijab is not a cloth in itself. Rather, the word Hijab is generally used to cover the head. Often this word is used for the head scarf worn by Muslim women. This scarf covers the head and neck. But the face is visible.
Meaning of Hijab in Islam
In his interview to BBC, Ashraf Kadakkal, Professor of Islamic History at Kerala University, says that all the four schools of Islamic jurisprudence – Shafi, Hanafi, Hanbali and Maliki – clearly state that a woman’s hair should be covered, especially in front of a non-mahram. In this way, it is an integral part of Islam. He further said that even on the basis of Islamic law, it is mentioned in Quran, Hadith, Ijma and Qiyas that hair should be covered.
Difference between Hijab, Niqab, Burqa, Al-Amira
We have already told you what Hijab is. Now know what is called a Niqab. Niqab is different from Hijab. Niqab is a kind of veil for the face. You can understand it as a mask. But it is quite different from a mask. On the other hand, if we talk about burqa, it covers the woman completely. If a woman wears a burqa, then only her eyes are visible, the rest of the body is covered. Now if we talk about Al-Amira, then it is also like a hijab, but it also has a special cap. Women wear this tight-fitting cap on their head and then wear a tube-like dupatta or scarf on top.
