What happens to the garbage thrown away: You must have heard a song on social media a lot, ‘Gadi wala aaya ghar se kachra nikal’. This song had created a stir on social media. You might be wondering. Why are we mentioning this song to you? Actually it was not just a song but a reality. In India, garbage collection vehicles come to the homes of crores of people.
In which people throw garbage and the vehicle goes away carrying that garbage. Many people do not have vehicles at their homes. So there are dumping yards around their houses. Where they dump the garbage and the vehicle takes it away from there. But have you ever wondered what happens to so much garbage that is transported every day? Let us tell you.
Waste is recycled
According to a report shared in 2021, 1,60,000 metric tons of garbage is generated every day in India. Which contains many types of waste. Which contains plastic, rubber and other things. Which is mostly garbage. It is sent for recycling. And the waste which is not recycled is sent to the landfill i.e. dumping yard.
In today’s era, the market for recycling waste has become quite big. Clothes are being made from plastic. Some time ago there was news that the clothes of the Indian cricket team were also made from recycled plastic. Along with this, other things are also made by recycling the waste.
Garbage is also sold and bought
Even if it sounds a bit strange to you. But it is true that many countries in the world are buying and selling waste. According to reports, Turkey is at number one in terms of purchasing garbage. Which had purchased 14.7 million tonnes of waste in the year 2021.
So India is at second place in this list. During this period, India had imported 2.4 million tonnes of garbage from other countries. A lot of work is being done by recycling waste in India. In which plastic roads are also being constructed. That is why India is buying garbage from abroad in large quantities. Most of these contain plastic waste.
