Large number of Indians left citizenship
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, i.e. during the years 2011 to 2019, an average of 132,000 Indians were leaving their citizenship every year. Whereas during the years 2020 and 2023, this number has increased by 20 percent to more than two lakh every year. The figures of migration of Indians presented by the Central Government in the Rajya Sabha last month were shocking. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has given information about the number of Indians leaving their citizenship. According to the data presented by him in the Rajya Sabha, more than two lakh, 16 thousand Indians have given up their citizenship in 2023.
Most citizens left the country this year
Giving information in a written reply, the Minister of State for External Affairs has said that the data from 2011 to 2018 says that the total number of Indians who gave up their citizenship in 2023 was 2,16,219. In comparison, the figures of previous years were less. Let us tell you that 2,25,620 Indians gave up citizenship in 2022, 1,63,370 in 2021, 85,256 in 2020 and 1,44,017 in 2019.
Most Indians in America
Let us tell you that from 2018 to 2023, Indians have acquired citizenship in 114 countries. Most of these people have settled in America, Canada, Australia, UK and Germany. In the last six years, 70 people have also acquired Pakistani citizenship. At the same time, 130 people have acquired Nepali citizenship and 1,500 people have opted for Kenyan citizenship. After China, India has the second highest number of international students, 15 lakh students here study abroad. But most people are preferring to leave their citizenship and go to America.
