First, people having diplomatic status, second, senior officers of Indian government who travel abroad on official work, third, A and B group officers of Foreign Service, fourth, families of Foreign Ministry and IFS and fifth, people travelling on official behalf of the government. This includes Union Ministers, MPs, politicians and their wives.

Why diplomatic passport is VVIP

Diplomatic passport is also called VVIP passport. Diplomatic passport holders do not have to pay any visa fee to travel to any country. No legal action can be taken against them abroad and they cannot even be arrested.

Prajwal Revanna case

It is worth noting that diplomatic passport has been a topic of discussion ever since Prajwal fled abroad. Actually, India has a visa waiver agreement with 34 countries. According to this, diplomatic passport holders do not need any kind of visa to travel to these countries. Under this agreement, diplomatic passport holders can stay in these countries for 30 to 90 days. Prajwal Revanna has also been able to flee the country under this.

How will the diplomatic passport be cancelled?

Now the question is how can the government cancel a diplomatic passport. According to the information, if someone gives wrong information or is convicted in a criminal case or has a criminal case pending against him, then the diplomatic passport can be cancelled. Section 10(3) of the Passport Act 1967 has provisions related to cancellation of passport.

What is Act 1967

According to section 10(3) of the Passport Act 1967, if any passport holder gives any kind of false information, or if his passport is against the sovereignty, unity and dignity of the country in any way, or is facing a criminal case, then the passport can be cancelled. Now, if we talk about the case of Prajwal Revanna, an arrest warrant has been issued against him. In such a situation, the passport can be cancelled. According to experts, if the government cancels Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport, then Germany can deport him to India.
