Let’s go back a few decades to know the tussle between Rani Mukherjee and Akshay Kumar. Akshay stepped into Bollywood in the nineties. On the other hand, Rani was known for her work in Bengali films. Rani Mukherjee got an offer to work in the film ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi’ to step into Bollywood. But she did not want to work with a newcomer like Akshay, so she turned down the offer. After that the film came into the possession of Raveena Tandon.
The tension between the two was not limited to this only. Rani was the first choice of the makers for ‘Sangharsh’ released in 1999. He had also agreed to work in that film. But after hearing Akshay’s name, he refused to do the film. Preity Zinta got a chance in place of Rani.

Rani was also selected for the film ‘Awara Pagal Deewana’ in 2002. But he turned down that offer too. Akshay did not think it good to turn down the opportunity to work with him not once, but thrice. After this he decided not to work with Rani any more. When Rani’s career was going through hiccups and her three films flopped consecutively. Big budget films like ‘Laga Chunari Mein Daag’, ‘Ta Ra Ram Paam’, ‘Thoda Pyaar Thora Magic’ could not hit the box office. Aditya Chopra, who came forward to save his wife’s career, planned a film and offered Akshay to be the hero of that film.
Akshay Kumar rejected the film
It is heard that the script was Akshay’s favourite. But when he came to know that Rani has been selected as the heroine of the film, he refused for this film. After that both never came together on screen. Even after so many years, this cold fight of both the stars has not ended.
