Why does a snake’s tongue have two parts, the reason behind this is related to which period?

Hundreds of species of snakes are found in the world. Some of these snakes are poisonous and some snakes are non-poisonous. Some snakes are so poisonous that if a person does not get proper treatment after being bitten, he may die. But do you know why the snake’s tongue is in two parts? Today we will tell you the story behind it.

Snake’s tongue

Snake’s tongue is divided into two parts. But apart from science, there is also a religious story about it. Today we will tell you the story behind this. Actually, the description of this relationship is found in the Mahabharata written by Vedvyas. According to the story, Maharishi Kashyap had thirteen wives. Out of these 13, one wife’s name was Kadru and the other’s name was Vinita. It is believed that Kadru gave birth to all snakes. All of them were the sons and daughters of Kadru and Maharishi Kashyap. Whereas his wife Vineeta got a son Garuda from Maharishi Kashyap.

According to the story, once Kadru and Vineeta saw a white horse in the forest. That horse had charmed both of them. An argument broke out between the two regarding this matter. The debate was whether the horse’s tail was white or black. The debate escalated so much that a bet was made between the two that the one whose words were true would win the bet. The loser will remain a slave for life. In this, Kudra said that the horse’s tail is black, while Vineeta said that the horse’s tail is white.

After this, Kudru ordered his children to reduce their appearance. After doing this, go and wrap yourself in the horse’s tail. Due to which from a distance it appears that the horse’s tail is black instead of white. But Kadru’s children refused to do this work. After this, Kadru started cursing her children to be burnt to ashes. After this, due to fear, the children were ready to cling to the horse’s tail.

According to the story, Vineeta had lost the bet and as per the fixed condition, she had accepted to become a slave. But when Vineeta’s son Garuda came to know about this, he went to his snake brothers and requested to free his mother from the maid. But his brothers set a condition for his release. He told Garuda that if he brought the pot of nectar from heaven, his mother would be freed from her maid. After this, Garuda had reached the earth with the nectar pot from heaven and placed the nectar on the seat of Kush.

But when his snake brother had gone to take a bath before consuming the nectar, at that very moment Lord Indra took the nectar. Chasing them, they reached the earth. After this, he picked up the pot of nectar and returned back to heaven. When all the snakes returned after bathing in the pond, they saw that the urn was not there. Due to which he thought that some drops of nectar must have fallen on Kush, hence he started licking Kush. Due to this his tongue was cut into two parts. Apart from this, many biologists claim that snakes store the smell in one part of their tongue and use the other part to carry the food down. This makes snakes different from other creatures.
