Most of the administrative officers of the country become officers after cracking the UPSC Civil Services Examination. People are selected for IAS and IPS posts through this examination. The post of an IAS officer is higher than that of an IPS officer. That is why you must have seen that often an IPS officer has to salute an IAS officer when he arrives. What is the difference between IAS and IPS?

Now first of all let us understand what is the difference between an IAS and an IPS officer. Let us tell you that both IAS and IPS are All India Services, but the cadre controlling authority of both is different. Both the officers who pass the IAS and IPS exams are posted on powerful posts in the country. Actually an IAS officer is posted as a District Magistrate. He has the responsibility of all the departments of the district. Whereas an IPS officer has the responsibility of one department.

Why do IPS officers not wear caps in front of IAS officers?

Now the question is why most IPS officers do not wear their cap in front of an IAS officer. Let us tell you that when an IPS officer goes to a meeting with an IAS officer, then according to the protocol, the IPS officer has to salute the IAS officer. However, there is a rule for this too, the IPS officer does this only when an IPS is in his full uniform. On the other hand, if an IPS is not wearing his cap, then he will not be obliged to salute the IAS officer. That is why most IPS officers often do not wear their cap in front of an IAS officer.

Let us tell you that the initial salary of an IAS is 56,100, apart from this there is also House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA). After becoming DGP, the salary of an IPS can range from 56,100 to 2,25,000 per month. It is worth noting that IAS is considered the highest post in the administrative service. The post that is given to the second rankers after IAS is IPS. IAS is trained at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBNSAA). IPS officers are trained at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).
