Why does flood cause devastation in Assam every year?

Let us tell you that Assam’s geographical structure is most responsible for floods. In simple terms, Assam is a U-shaped valley. There is very little drainage in the surrounding areas, The water coming from the mountains worsens the situation here

According to the National Flood Commission, in Assam 311,500 square kilometre area is flood affected. Here the water flowing with great force from the surrounding hills becomes the cause of flood every year. Actually because of this water, the water level of Brahmaputra and other tributary rivers increases so much that it leads to flood situation.

Remains vulnerable to floods 40 percent share

You will be surprised to know that this state’s 40 percent of the area is prone to floods all the time . Actually the hilly part of Assam is adjacent to Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. The rivers originating from Tibet reach Assam via Arunachal Pradesh. In such a situation, the Brahmaputra flowing in Assam and its 49 Tributary rivers take a ferocious form. The situation becomes so dangerous that even the roads get closed and people get stuck where they are. According to the report, in the last few years, the width of the valley has increased due to the erosion of the Brahmaputra river, while the north-eastern region of this place also falls in the earthquake zone. Every year many people lose their lives in Assam due to floods.
