Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been found to have high ketone levels in his body. Due to which doctors have asked him to do some special tests. Arvind is a diabetic patient and now the high ketone levels in his body are a matter of concern.

The ketone level in the body becomes high when insulin gradually starts decreasing. Due to which the problem of ketonuria increases in type-1 diabetes patients. This can be a chronic medical condition. Know its causes and symptoms.

Fat and protein instead of carbohydrates are used for energy in the body

Fat and protein are used instead of carbohydrates for energy in the body. In such a situation, a chemical is formed in the body which is called ketone. These ketones get out of the body through the toilet. But sometimes it gets out in large quantities in urine. This serious condition is called ketonuria. Diabetes can cause ketoacidosis.

What is ketoneuria?

When the amount of ketones in the toilet starts increasing, then this entire condition is called ketonuria. The liver produces ketones. There are three types of them: acetoacetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and acetone. The amount of ketones in the urine starts increasing when the body starts breaking down the body’s backup i.e. fat and protein cells for energy. Diabetes patients need to get rid of this problem. Due to which there is a deficiency of fat and protein in the body. Insulin decreases in this.

When does the level of ketones become high?

Being hungry for a long time, eating less food, the amount of fat, carbohydrates, starch and glucose in the body starts decreasing. Sometimes, due to staying hungry for a long time, the amount of ketones in the urine starts increasing. In type-1 diabetes, very little amount of insulin is produced in the body, due to which ketones start being produced by breaking down proteins in the body itself.

When is there a risk of increased ketones?

If you are a patient of high BP and take insulin, then a test of ketones in the body should be done.

When there are more ketones than normal in the urine, then a person should get tested.

When more ketones than normal are found in the urine, then the person needs special treatment.
