There will be cows and buffaloes around you, who will be eating green grass every day. The blood flowing in their body is red, but have you ever wondered why their milk is white in spite of all this. Not only these, but the color of the milk of all those creatures found on this earth, which can give birth to a child, is white. Man is also one of these creatures. But have you ever tried to know why this happens? What are the chemicals present inside the body, due to which the milk turns white.
Why is milk white?
This is a big question for those who drink milk everyday. Actually, milk is white because of the white color casein present in it. Casein is one of the main proteins present in milk. Casein combines with the calcium and phosphate present in milk to form tiny particles called micelles. When light falls on this micelle, it gets refracted and scattered and due to this milk appears white. Apart from this, the fat present in milk is also a reason for its whiteness.
Why is cow’s milk light yellow?
If you have ever observed carefully, then you would know that cow’s milk appears slightly yellow in comparison to buffalo’s. The reason for this is the dilution of cow’s milk. Actually, cow’s milk is lighter than buffalo’s milk and the amount of fat in it is also less. Along with this, the amount of casein is also less in it, due to which cow’s milk appears pale yellow. Let us tell you that milk contains proteins, fats, lactose, carbohydrates, calcium as well as vitamins, phosphorus and many other bioactives.
