Assembly Election Date Announcement: The Election Commission on Friday (August 16) announced the dates for the assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The Election Commission said that voting will be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir – on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be declared on October 4. Meanwhile, when Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar was asked why the schedule of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is being extended beyond the deadline of September 30 set by the Supreme Court?

On this, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, ‘Actually, the Amarnath Yatra will end on 19 August in Jammu and Kashmir. The Lok Sabha elections ended on 4 and 6 June last month. Therefore, there was bad weather, and then there was the Amarnath Yatra. In such a situation, no person could go on the same date i.e. 19 August.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar further said that we are not giving even half a day when someone could have started. He said that it has started well within the time period and it will end on time. Rajiv Kumar said that the date does not matter. The important thing is that we go according to the spirit.

Rajiv Kumar further said that the amendment to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act came in December 2023. He said, “The time period of the commission started in December 2023 itself. After that Lok Sabha Elections so we are not delaying it at all.

Elections will be held in 3 phases in Jammu and Kashmir

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that there will be 90 assembly seats in Jammu Kashmir. These are the seats after delimitation. The Election Commission said that this time 3 seats have been increased in the Jammu Kashmir assembly. Last time there were 87 seats in the Jammu Kashmir assembly. Rajiv Kumar said, “Out of 90 seats in Jammu Kashmir, 74 are general. At the same time, 9 seats have been reserved for scheduled tribes and 7 seats for scheduled castes.”
