Birth
Chaudhary Charan Singh was born in a middle-class farmer family in Noorpur, present Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. Was born in 1902. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in science in 1923 and did his master’s degree from Agra University in 1925. After this, he also practiced law in Ghaziabad after taking a law degree.
Political journey
Charan Singh left law practice in 1929 and went to Meerut and Had joined the Congress Party. He was first elected to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly from Chhaprauli in 1937. After which he represented Chhaprauli region in the Assembly in 1946, 1952, 1962 and 1967. During his stay in the Assembly, he was the Parliamentary Secretary in the government of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant in 1946. Apart from this, he worked in various departments like Revenue, Medical and Public Health, Justice, Information etc. Apart from this, in June 1951, he was appointed as the Cabinet Minister of the state and was given the charge of Justice and Information departments. Then in 1952, he was the Revenue and Agriculture Minister in the cabinet of Dr. Sampurnanand. When he resigned from the post in April 1959, he was in charge of the Revenue and Transport Department. Whereas C.B. He was the Home and Agriculture Minister (1960) in Gupta’s cabinet. He was the Minister of Agriculture and Forests (1962-63) in the cabinet of Sucheta Kripalani. He left the Agriculture Department in 1965 and took charge of the Local Self Government Department in 1966.
Journey to Chief Minister
Chaudhary Charan Singh split the Congress. After this, in February 1970, he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second time with the support of the Congress Party. However, President’s rule was imposed in the state on 2 October 1970. He was known as a strong leader. He did not tolerate any shortcomings in administrative work. Not only this, he was completely against nepotism and corruption.
Messiah of farmers
Chaudhary ji gets full credit for land reforms in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Goes to only. He had an important role in preparing and finalizing the Departmental Debt Relief Bill, 1939, which provided relief to rural debtors. Especially the farmer class of the country liked him the most. Chaudhary ji always took decisions in the interest of farmers. In western Uttar Pradesh he is also known as King of Jat.
