There is severe heat in North India. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in the entire North India for the next few days. To keep the body cool during the heat wave, people prefer to drink cold water or take a long bath so that the body remains cool. But if we believe the experts, doing this is absolutely wrong because it is not good for health.
These problems occur due to bathing during heat wave
He said that taking a short bath also helps in preventing skin irritation. Because hot water takes away the natural oils of the skin. Due to which the skin becomes dry and the possibility of heat rashes increases, so whenever you feel that there is a heat wave, take a short bath during that time.
This has been explained in detail in the Indian Express. Agreeing with this, Dr. Sukirti Bhalla, Cardiology Consultant at Aakash Healthcare, New Delhi, said that when we take a bath, all the pores of the body open up and vasodilate.
In such a situation, the longer you bathe, the more the risk of heat increases. During the heat wave, one should try to save energy as much as possible. Due to dehydration in the heat, the blood can thicken and its clots can also form. In such a situation, one should try to save energy. Due to which the risk of heart attack also increases. Go out of the house only after drinking a lot of water and when you come back home from the heat, definitely drink water mixed with salt.
Does it have any relation with heart related problems?
Experts emphasise that excessive heat, especially in the elderly, can lead to a loss of homeostasis in the body, which is controlled by bathing. This failure is often worsened by existing cardiovascular problems. Dr Bhalla said, the ideal body temperature should be between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius. If your body loses water due to vasodilation and dehydration, it can cause blood to thicken and clot, resulting in pulmonary embolism.
How long is it good to take a bath?
Bathe in normal water for 5-10 minutes only. He also said that bathing should be avoided during busy times, to control your body temperature, it is most important to try to bathe at 11 am or in the evening.
To keep yourself cool, wear cold clothes, towels and soak your feet in water. If you are suffering from heat stroke, apply cold compress for relief. Wear loose half-sleeved cotton clothes. It is especially advisable to avoid ice baths because blood circulation shrinks and a sudden shock is very harmful for the body.
