Earlier in the Family Counseling Center in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, fights between husband and wife over talking on mobile or domestic dispute were coming to the fore. These days, cases of conflict have increased due to the craze for Gutka among women. The counselor tried to make both the parties understand but they too are confused by the matter of leaving the husband but not leaving Gutka.
Case-1
In Agra, the husband, a teacher, had thrown his wife out of the house a year ago due to her addiction to gutka. After living in her maternal home for a year, she appealed to the police for help. The matter reached the family counseling center. During counselling, the wife put a condition before her husband. Said that if not more then she will definitely eat Gutka once a day. She can live without her husband but not without eating gutka. The agreement was reached after the husband agreed to the condition.
Case-2
In Sadar police station area, a shoe artisan got into debt due to his wife’s expenses of consuming gutka and firing bullets. When they tried to stop, a fight broke out between the husband and wife. The wife came to her maternal home and started living. Complained to the police. The matter reached the family counseling center. During counselling, the wife said that she could leave her husband. No consuming Gutka and firing bullets. If the husband accepts the decision then take him to his in-laws’ house.
Counselor Dr. Amit Gaur said that earlier mobile phones and mother-in-law used to be a cause of quarrel for married women. Now Gutka is also becoming the reason. A lot of efforts are made to convince both husband and wife. The craze for Gutka is affecting the agreement.
