The Supreme Court on Thursday (November 21, 2024) said that it will hear after eight weeks a petition seeking a ban on the website displaying jokes on members of the Sikh community and presenting them in a bad image. A bench of Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan said, ‘This is an important case.’ The petition raised the issue of making fun of the attire of women from the Sukh community and highlighted it in the court.
Petitioner Harvinder Choudhary informed the bench that he would consider his suggestions as well as the views of other parties in the case. Will consolidate the suggestions and file a summary. The bench gave him eight weeks’ time and listed the matter for further hearing.
During the hearing, petitioner Harvinder Chaudhary highlighted the grievances of women from the Sikh community who were ridiculed for their attire. to be done. Apart from this, he also told about the problems related to Sikh children in schools. The bench said, ‘You prepare a small compilation so that it becomes easy to read.’
The Supreme Court had agreed to hear the petition in October 2015, after which similar complaints were raised. More petitions were filed. The petitioner had earlier mentioned that there were more than 5,000 websites displaying jokes on Sikhs and portraying members of the community in a bad image.
The petition said that such websites displaying jokes on Sikhs The website should be banned for violating the fundamental right to live with life and dignity guaranteed under the Constitution.
