Winter Session of Parliament: The 10th session of the 17th Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Friday (December 23). In the winter session, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha ended six days before the scheduled time. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that during the winter session of Parliament, 68 hours and 42 minutes of work was done in 13 sittings. Lok Sabha Speaker Birla also told that the work productivity during this period was around 97 percent. During this, 9 bills were introduced and 7 bills were passed.

Which bills were passed in the Parliament?

Many important bills were introduced during the winter session. Out of which 7 bills were passed. ‘Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill 2022’, ‘Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth Amendment) Bill 2022’ approved. With this, the supplementary demands for grants of Rs 3.25 lakh crore for the financial year 2022-23 and additional demands for grants for 2019-20 were approved. Om Birla also informed that the Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill and the Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill have been sent to the Joint Committee of both the Houses of Parliament.

How many questions were asked in the Lok Sabha?

Om Birla said that 56 starred questions were answered orally in the House during the winter session. 2760 unstarred questions were answered in writing. Apart from this, 298 matters of public importance were raised in the House. During Zero Hour, 374 matters of public importance were raised by the Lok Sabha members. The Speaker said that the Standing Committee presented 36 reports in the House and made 43 statements. A total of 1811 papers were presented in the House.

What were the issues discussed?

Birla told about the small discussions that took place in the House and said that the discussion ended on December 9 on the need to promote sports in India and the steps taken by the government. Two hours were given for discussion on this, but this discussion lasted for 8 hours and 6 minutes. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur replied on ‘abuse of drugs in India and the steps taken by the government’. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also replied.

How many private member bills were introduced?

Talking about the private member bill, Om Birla said that 59 bills were introduced on different subjects. Apart from this, Gopal Chinnaya Shetty introduced ‘The Representation of People (Amendment) Bill, 2019’. On which the discussion could not be completed.
